On 29th June The City of Edinburgh Council launched its Call for Ideas consultation to help shape Edinburgh’s next Local Development Plan, inviting ideas for the future development of the city, including new allocations for development. Unlike previous local development plans, once adopted, this plan has a life time of ten years. As such, the opportunity to present development sites will not come back around for another ten years.
The consultation aims to support the effective use, development, and management of land and buildings across Edinburgh. Participants are encouraged to submit proposals that focus on how land and properties can be used to meet the city’s future housing, infrastructure, economic, and community needs.
Presenting your idea could be in the form of:
- Identifying a site where development could take place.
- Describe what should be built on the site.
- Demonstrate what buildings or spaces or sites should be kept and protected.
- Explain what facilities or services should be improved in your area.
- Propose new planning policy to halt or promote certain uses.
Call for Ideas opened on 29th June 2026 and closes 30th September 2026
This is an important opportunity for individuals and organisations to help shape the future growth and development of Edinburgh through the Local Development Plan process.
