Planning Granted at Chris Stewart Group’s The Registers

June 8th 2016

On behalf of our client Chris Stewart Group, Scott Hobbs Planning (SHP) has secured Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for the mixed use development at The Registers, in Edinburgh City Centre.

After the council minded to grant the application in December, Historic Environment Scotland (HES) submitted an objection, which resulted in the application being called in for examination by the Scottish Government. After amendments to designs, a new listed building consent was submitted to protect the Venetian Gothic Building at 28 West Register Street. HES dropped their objection and the amended application was granted by City of Edinburgh Council once again.

The plans will transform the former Royal Bank of Scotland Headquarters at 41 – 42 St Andrew Square into a restaurant, gymnasium and residential apartments, and a new grade A office, retail/food and beverage development is proposed at South St Andrew Street / West Register Street, incorporating the ornate fa├žade of 28 West Register Street.

The development is a catalytic component of the wider Register Lanes regeneration initiative, including enhanced access to the St James redevelopment.
