June 22nd 2020

SHP (Scott Hobbs Planning), on behalf of Scottish Power Energy Networks and working alongside JM Architects, have gained planning permission in principle at Dewar Place, Edinburgh. The site comprises B Listed former offices, a former electrical substation and vacant land. The proposed development includes new hotels, offices, retail units, restaurants, and a pedestrian deck, in addition to a bridge link and accesses from Western Approach Road, Dewar Place & Canning Street.  The proposals will deliver 25,330sqm of hotel floorspace, 4,559sqm office floorspace and 206 sqm of commercial space, comprising a mixture of retail and café/restaurants.

The sitting, maximum heights, and limits of deviation of the proposed buildings have been subject to detailed approval. The proposals also include the partial demolition and refurbishment of the façade of the former electrical substation. The proposals present an exciting opportunity to regenerate this underutilised site in a prominent city centre location.
