SHP success for mixed use development at Edinburgh Exchange

March 26th 2018

Scott Hobbs Planning (SHP) has secured a resolution to approve planning permission in principle for a large-scale mixed use development at ‘Exchange 2’, the Scottish Power-owned site at Dewar Place, adjacent to the Exchange in Edinburgh City Centre.

The site of the recently upgraded substation serving the whole of the City Centre will see a new podium deck accommodation a 300 bed hotel, with a further 250 bed hotel built alongside, and a new office building complementing the mix.  City of Edinburgh Council’s Development Management sub-Committee approved the JM Architects-designed development subject to the completion of a planning obligation relating to developer contributions.  It also separately granted listed building consent and conservation area consent for the proposals.

SHP will submit further applications detailing the design of the buildings later in the year, and the hotels are scheduled to commence construction in Spring 2019.
