Proposed Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and associated infrastructure.

The Section 36 Application was submitted to the Energy Consents Unit (ECU) in September 2024 and consent was granted in December 2025 by Scottish Ministers and deemed planning permission achieved, with SHP acting as agent and leading the management of the application.

Key matters include co-location with substation, greenfield site in rural location, ecology, cumulative impact. SHP was engaged in preparing a Pre-Application Enquiry with the Moray Council, preparing consultation events and engagement with the public and key stakeholders. The pre-application engagement help shape the proposed design and layout for BESS and associated infrastructure. The inclusion of landscaping and earth works was key to integrating the scheme into the site. SHP worked closely with project team, in preparing EIA Screening request and submission of the application. SHP further reviewed the proposed conditions and aided in the removal of several onerous conditions.
