Development consisting of a Purpose-Built Student Accommodation and commercial space (Class 1A).

The application for planning permission was submitted in November 2023 and a non-determination appeal was submitted to the DPEA in April 2024, which was subsequently followed by a successful approval on 26th August 2024.

The site formed a challenging location, due to the distance to the further education institutions throughout Edinburgh, other key challenges including flood risk, improved public realm and respecting neighbouring tenemental properties. SHP worked closely with project team in preparing Planning Statement and liaising with the team on design evolution and advising on/contributing to other supporting documents. SHP provided planning strategy, advice and assisted in preparation and submission of the planning application. SHP proactively advised the client team on submitting a non-determination appeal to the DPEA, and followed up with an efficient and successful advice throughout the appeal process with an effective communication with DPEA and Applicant team until grant of planning permission.
